Federico Moccia is an Italian writer and screenwriter best known for Three Metres Above the Sky, a young-adult novel that became a romance phenomenon in Italy, Spain and Latin America.
He was born in Rome on 11 November 1963 into a family connected to the film industry.
He self-published Tre metri sopra il cielo in 1992 before the novel became a mass phenomenon.
The book was adapted into the 2004 Italian film and the 2010 Spanish remake with Mario Casas and María Valverde.
His novel Ho voglia di te popularised the love-padlock ritual on Rome's Ponte Milvio bridge.
He also works as a screenwriter and director for film and television.
