Eiji Yoshikawa was a Japanese historical novelist, best known for his revisions of classics and retelling of historical events through the lens of semi-biographical fiction books.

Eiji Yoshikawa was born in Yokohama and became one of Japan's most prolific novelists with 123 published works.

His masterpiece Musashi is a global benchmark in historical literature about the life of the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi.

Beyond being a novelist, Yoshikawa excelled as a journalist, poet, and screenwriter, demonstrating great creative versatility.

His deep fascination with Japanese history allowed him to masterfully recreate past eras in titles such as Shin heike monogatari.

Throughout his life, he used the pseudonym Kijiro to sign part of his extensive literary production.
