Kristin Cashore was born in Boston in 1976 and grew up in rural Pennsylvania as the second of four daughters.
Her lifelong love of reading led her to pursue a master's degree in children's literature at Simmons College.
Before becoming a full-time author, she worked as a dog runner, a candy factory packer, and a legal assistant.
