Arkady Strugatsky was born in Batumi and spent much of his childhood in Leningrad.
Before turning to literature, he graduated from the Military Institute of Foreign Languages and worked as an interpreter.
His writing career took off in 1955, after he left his job as a teacher and military translator.
He is globally recognized for his science fiction masterpiece, Roadside Picnic.
Starting in 1958, he formed a legendary creative duo with his brother Boris Strugatsky.
