She was born Agatha Mary Clarissa Miller in Torquay, England, on 15 September 1890.
Her first Poirot novel, The Mysterious Affair at Styles, was published in October 1920.
Her play The Mousetrap opened in London in 1952 and became the world's longest-running stage production.
In 1926 she famously disappeared for eleven days, gripping the British public.
She was made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1971.
