«Yo, Zenobia, reina de Palmira» is the historical novel by Bernard Simiot, published by Emecé in paperback (288 pages, in Spanish).
The novel imagines the memoirs of Zenobia, queen of Palmyra in the third century. After the death of her husband Odaenathus, she assumes power, promotes the oasis city and defies Rome; in 272 the troops of Aurelian defeat her and take her into exile near Rome. It combines historical sources with fictional invention.
Originally published in French in 1978 as «Moi, Zénobie, reine de Palmyre», it received the Bourse Goncourt du récit historique; this Spanish edition appeared in 1995.
For readers of historical fiction interested in late antiquity, the Roman Empire and the Near East.
