«Wise Virgin» is a fiction novel by A. N. Wilson, published by Penguin Books in paperback (208 pages, in English).
Giles Fox, a blind medievalist and twice widower, tries to astonish the world with his interpretation of a 13th-century manuscript on virginity. His assistant Louise Agar proposes marriage to him, while his daughter Tibba lets herself be seduced by a precocious schoolboy; the romantic entanglements shed new light on his research.
Winner of the W. H. Smith Annual Literary Award 1983; the first edition of the novel appeared in 1982.
For readers of contemporary British fiction who appreciate ironic humour and portraits of academic characters.
