«Waxwings» is the contemporary fiction novel by Jonathan Raban, published by Picador in paperback (320 pages, in English).
Set in Seattle at the turn of the millennium, the novel follows two immigrants: Tom Janeway, an English intellectual of Hungarian origin, and Chick, an undocumented Chinese man. Both pursue the American dream while the stock market rises, anti-globalisation riots break out and the disappearance of a child sows unease; their paths eventually collide.
The novel was shortlisted for the Booker Prize in 2003, the year of its first edition. The Picador edition dates from 2004.
An appropriate read for book clubs and for those interested in contemporary fiction about migration and identity.

Jonathan Mark Hamilton Priaulx Raban was a British award-winning travel writer, playwright, critic and novelist.
