«Vendute!» is the autobiographical testimony of Zana Muhsen, published by Mondadori in paperback (305 pages, in Italian).
At sixteen, Zana Muhsen travels from England to Yemen with the promise of an exotic holiday; there, she and her sister Nadia are sold as wives and forced to live almost as slaves in a remote village. The book recounts eight years of suffering and despair, contrasting Zana's rebelliousness with Nadia's resignation.
«Vendute!» is the 1994 Italian edition in the Oscar bestsellers collection (no. 372), with a translation by Francesco Forti. The original work «Sold» appeared in 1991.
For readers of memoirs and real-life testimonies, with an interest in stories about the female condition and oppressive cultural dynamics.
Zana Muhsen, is a British author known for her book Sold: Story of Modern-day Slavery and its follow-up A Promise to Nadia. The books narrate the experiences that she and her sister Nadia Muhsen went through after they were sold into marriage by their father, Muthanna Muhsen, a Yemeni émigré.
