«Une journée d'Ivan Denissovitch» is the novel by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn about a day in the life of a gulag prisoner, in a French paperback edition.
The novel follows a single day of Ivan Denisovich Shukhov, a prisoner in a Soviet labour camp. From waking before dawn to the end of the day, it describes forced labour, hunger and the small decisions by which the protagonist preserves his dignity. It is also a restrained critique of the gulag system.
This edition, in French, was published in 1975; the Russian original is titled ‘Odin den' Ivana Denisovicha’.

Aleksandr Isayevich Solzhenitsyn was a Soviet and Russian author and dissident who helped to raise global awareness of political repression in the Soviet Union, especially the Gulag prison system. His nonfiction work The Gulag Archipelago "amounted to a head-on challenge to the Soviet state" and sold tens of millions of copies.
