«The Tenant and The Motive» is a volume of two short novels by Javier Cercas, published by Bloomsbury Paperbacks in paperback (192 pages, in English).
A black-humour volume bringing together two stories: in «The Tenant», a linguistics professor sees his life fall apart after twisting his ankle while a colleague vies for his classes and wins over his girlfriend; in «The Motive», a writer obsessed with perfect inspiration spies on his neighbours and manipulates them, with unforeseen consequences.
Published on 15 May 2006. The two short novels correspond to «El inquilino» and «El móvil», gathered here in English.
For readers of contemporary fiction and admirers of Javier Cercas who enjoy black humour and unsettling stories.
