«The Lady in the Lake» is the graded reader of Raymond Chandler's crime novel, in paperback (48 pages, in English).
A man hires detective Philip Marlowe to find his missing wife, though he admits he hates her. Telegrams, neatly arranged plates and a too-beautiful secretary don't seem like clear clues; what matters is knowing what the woman who left was like. Marlowe enters a world of cruelty and several crimes come to light.
It corresponds to the Elementary level of the Penguin Readers (Graded Readers) series by Pearson. Raymond Chandler's original novel was published in 1943 and is the fourth instalment in the Philip Marlowe series.
Aimed at elementary-level English students who want to read adapted crime fiction with one of the most famous detectives in fiction.
