«The Hobbit» is the fantasy novel by J. R. R. Tolkien, published by Harper Collins Promotion in paperback (351 pages, in English).
Bilbo Baggins, a comfortable and unambitious hobbit, has his life altered when Gandalf and thirteen dwarves recruit him to recover the treasure guarded by the dragon Smaug. The expedition takes him along dangerous paths of Middle-earth, where he must rely on his wits. The story precedes The Lord of the Rings.
The work was originally published in 1937; this 2013 edition is linked to Peter Jackson's film trilogy and includes drawings and maps by J. R. R. Tolkien. It is the first volume of the Middle-earth series.
For young audiences and readers who want to start with Tolkien's epic fantasy in a version tied to the films.
John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was an English writer and academic philologist. He was the author of the high fantasy works The Hobbit (1937) and The Lord of the Rings (1954–1955).
