«The Global Village» is the essay by Marshall McLuhan and Bruce R. Powers, published by Oxford University Press in paperback (240 pages, in English).
Posthumous essay applying Understanding Media to the worldwide electronic network. It distinguishes two modes of perception: visual space, linear and quantitative, linked to the West and the printing press, and acoustic space, holistic and qualitative, linked to the East and electronic media. The collision between the two and the tetrad form the core of the analysis.
Originally published in 1992, it belongs to the Communication and Society series of Oxford University Press.
Aimed at students and readers interested in communication theory, media studies, and the social impact of technology.

Herbert Marshall McLuhan was a Canadian philosopher whose work is among the cornerstones of the study of media theory. Raised in Winnipeg, McLuhan studied at the University of Manitoba and the University of Cambridge. He began his teaching career as a professor of English at several universities in the United States and Canada before moving to the University of Toronto in 1946, where he remained for the rest of his life. He is known as "the father of media studies".
