«The Farewell Party» is the novel by Milan Kundera, published by Penguin UK in paperback (192 pages, in English).
In a Central European spa town, eight characters cross paths over a few days: a nurse, her boyfriend, a gynaecologist, a wealthy American, a trumpeter and his jealous wife, and a former political prisoner. Between farce and irony, the novel addresses motherhood, desire and death, and questions whether modern man still has a right to tragedy.
Originally published in Czech in 1972 as «Valčík na rozloučenou». This English edition is a translation by Peter Kussi.
Intended for readers of contemporary fiction and twentieth-century Central European literature.

Milan Kundera was a Czech and French novelist. Kundera went into exile in France in 1975, acquiring citizenship in 1981. His Czechoslovak citizenship was revoked in 1979, but he was granted Czech citizenship in 2019.
