«Terra baixa» is the drama by Àngel Guimerà in an updated version by Maite Carranza and Júlia Prats, published by Sembra Llibres in paperback, in Catalan.
Manelic, a shepherd from the highlands, marries Marta and confronts the power of Sebastià, the local boss. The play opposes the protagonist's simplicity to the intrigues of the lowlands, and addresses social oppression, economic, labour and gender conflicts, and dignity in the face of injustice.
The original work by Àngel Guimerà dates from 1896. This edition is part of the Clàssics collection from Sembra Llibres and opens with a prologue by Maite Carranza.
Aimed at students and readers interested in Catalan classics, with a version that highlights the relevance of its social conflicts.
