«Tender Bar» is the memoir by J. R. Moehringer, published by FISCHER Taschenbuch in paperback (459 pages).
J. R. Moehringer recalls his childhood in Long Island, where the voice of an absent disc jockey father became a longed-for presence. Without that figure, he finds in a neighbourhood bar an improvised home and a motley group of men who act as mentors. The narrative traces his attempts to make his way, from Yale to The New York Times.
Original title: «The Tender Bar». The work was originally published in 2005; this edition appeared in 2008.
Recommended for readers of memoirs and coming-of-age stories, with an interest in the search for identity and life in New York bars.
