«Tender Bar» is the autobiographical novel by J.R. Moehringer, published by S. Fischer Verlag in hardback (459 pages, in German).
Young J.R. grows up in the Dickens, a Long Island bar whose regulars, warm and eccentric characters, become his father figures. Amid beers, baseball games and Sinatra's music, he learns lessons about friendship, courage and the possibility of fulfilling dreams.
The work was originally published in English as «The Tender Bar» in 2005; the German translation is by Brigitte Jakobeit.
A read for those who enjoy memoirs and coming-of-age stories with endearing characters.
