«Summoned by Balls» is a humorous poetry collection by Christopher Matthew about golf, published by Hodder Hb in hardback (112 pages, in English).
Christopher Matthew humorously observes golf and its players, from millionaire professionals to weekend amateurs. His verses, inspired by poets such as Kipling, Betjeman and Tennyson, portray the emotions of the game, from the first hole to the club bar: obsessions, authoritarian lady captains, golfing dogs and improbable excuses.
Published on 12 September 2005, with illustrations by David Eccles; the cover mentions «Now We Are Sixty», also by Christopher Matthew.
Aimed at golf enthusiasts and readers of humour and poetry, given its sporting theme and humorous tone.
Christopher Charles Forrest Matthew is a British writer and broadcaster. He is the author of Now We Are Sixty, inspired by the poems of A. A. Milne in the book Now We Are Six, and the chronicler of the life and times of the hapless hero, Simon Crisp, in Diary of a Somebody.
