«Stranger on a Train» is Jenny Diski's travel memoir, published by Virago Press Ltd in paperback (288 pages, in English).
Despite preferring to stay home, Jenny Diski travels across the United States by train, blending travel narrative with personal memory. Between carriages she meets characters with stories to tell and observes a country already familiar from film and television. Loneliness, friendship and memories of psychiatric hospitals intertwine with the American landscape.
With the subtitle 'Daydreaming and Smoking Around America with Interruptions', it won the Thomas Cook Travel Book Award and the J. R. Ackerley Prize for Autobiography.
For readers of memoirs and travel literature, with an introspective and personal view of the United States.
