«Salamina» is the historical novel by Javier Negrete, published by Espasa in hardback (566 pages, in Spanish).
Salamina is set in the 5th century BC: Athens sees its young democracy threatened by the Persian Empire; Themistocles, strategist and visionary, organises the resistance, and the action goes from Marathon and Thermopylae to the naval battle of Salamis, with Artemisia, queen of Halicarnassus and ally of the Persians, as a prominent figure.
Salamina was published in March 2008; it is part of the Espasa Narrativa collection and was recognised with the Espartaco Prize at the Semana Negra de Gijón.
For readers of historical fiction who enjoy ancient Greece, naval battles and political figures such as Themistocles.
