«Sailor Bear» is the children's picture book by Martin Waddell, published by Walker Books in hardback (32 pages, in English).
A small bear, lost and a little lonely, sets out to sea in a wicker basket with his sailor suit and an oar. His brief voyage becomes a little adventure and ends with his wishes fulfilled. A reassuring tale about courage, loneliness and the pursuit of dreams, intended for early readers.
This is the miniature hardback edition and belongs to the Bear Hugs series. The illustrations are by Virginia Austin.
Given its short length and reassuring tone, it suits early readers and reading aloud to preschool children.
Martin Waddell is a writer of children's books from Belfast, Northern Ireland. He may be known best for his picture book texts featuring anthropomorphic animals, especially the Little Bear series illustrated by Barbara Firth.
