«Retornamos como sombras» is the historical novel by Paco Ignacio Taibo II, published by Destino in paperback (520 pages, in Spanish).
A man confined in a mental asylum on the outskirts of the capital, convicted of murdering his wife, reviews the history of Mexico in the 1940s through a deliberately chaotic narrative. What emerges is a portrait of reality where absurdity and fiction blend with history, and where all threads eventually connect.
For readers of historical fiction and Spanish-language fiction.
