In a village decimated by a chain of murders, with thirty-two crimes and only seventy-six living inhabitants, the arrival of Lucien Lurette, an artist seeking inspiration, disrupts the routine. Settled in the local inn, the outsider tries to understand the secrets and rules of that community marked by rumours, aberrant behaviour and the threat of a disease called remordingue.

This French edition was published in 2001. The work was awarded the Alph-Art prize at the Angoulême Festival in 1997.
