«Première ligne» is the novel by Jean-Marie Laclavetine, published by Gallimard in paperback (309 pages, in French).
The novel presents writing as an addiction: a mutual-help club meets in the back room of the Caminito bar, on rue des Cinq-Diamants, to support anyone who wants to stop writing. The story explores that dependence and the hope of overcoming it with understanding and support.
Winner of the Prix Goncourt des Lycéens in 1999; the Gallimard paperback edition appeared on 28 March 2001.
