«Porque éramos jóvenes» is the novel by Josefina Rodríguez Aldecoa, published by Círculo de Lectores in hardback (238 pages, in Spanish).
The novel reconstructs the personality of a deceased man, David, through three approaches: the letters an old love sends him from New York, the conversation between his widow and his best friend, and the review of key moments of his past. Thus his doubts, his contradictions, and the weight of nostalgia are revealed.
The novel was originally published in 1986; this Spanish edition by Círculo de Lectores appeared in 1997.
