«Por el pasado llorarás» is the autobiographical novel by Chester Himes, published by Punto de Lectura in paperback (544 pages, in Spanish).
Chester Himes draws on his own prison experience to narrate the sentence of a young man for robbery. The novel portrays a prison system marked by arbitrariness, cruel punishments, and violence among inmates, while also showing how dignity, friendship, and hope survive in a dehumanizing environment.
Translation by Antonio Padilla González. The English original was first published in 1952; this Spanish edition appeared in 2007.
For readers of crime fiction and stories based on prison experiences.
