«Pobby et Dingan» is Ben Rice's first novel, published by Calmann-Lévy in paperback in 2003 (137 pages, in French).
In Lightning Ridge, in the Australian outback, Kellyanne, daughter of an opal miner, has two invisible friends: Pobby and Dingan. Only she can see them; her brother Ashmol doesn't believe in them. When they disappear, Ashmol organises a search across town to save his sister, who is wasting away with grief, and ends up doubting his scepticism.
The French translation was published on 27 August 2003; the English original, «Pobby and Dingan», appeared in 2000. It won the Somerset Maugham Award and was shortlisted for the John Llewellyn Rhys Prize.
For readers of magical realism and young adult fiction; a story about imagination and grief between siblings.
