«Pippeloentje» is the illustrated children's picture book by Annie M.G. Schmidt, published by Querido in hardback (42 pages, in Dutch).
The verses of this book introduce Pippeloentje, a little bear who does the same as young children: eats porridge, sleeps, plays outdoors, misbehaves and celebrates his birthday. The scenes show him growing up in a warm, safe environment, surrounded by his bear parents and other animals to play with.
Annie M.G. Schmidt wrote the first verse of Pippeloentje in 1950 for the children's page of Het Parool. With illustrations by Fleur van der Weel, the title won the Zilveren Penseel in 2018.

Anna Maria Geertruida "Annie" Schmidt was a Dutch writer. She is called the mother of the Dutch theatrical song, and the queen of Dutch children's literature, praised for her "delicious Dutch idiom," and considered one of the greatest Dutch writers. An ultimate honour was extended to her posthumously, in 2007, when a group of Dutch historians compiled the "Canon of the Netherlands" and included Schmidt, alongside national icons such as Vincent van Gogh and Anne Frank.
