«Pentecost» is the play by David Edgar, published by Nick Hern Books in paperback (128 pages, in English).
In a ruined church in Eastern Europe, a fresco appears that could rewrite the history of Western art. Art historians, religious figures and politicians claim the work, and that dispute becomes a metaphor for the future of emerging nations. The arrival of twelve refugees triggers a confrontation.
The play premiered in 1994 with the Royal Shakespeare Company, won the Evening Standard Award for Best Play in 1995 and is part of David Edgar's trilogy on post-communist Eastern Europe.
For readers of contemporary British theatre and those interested in debates on cultural identity and artistic heritage in Eastern Europe.
