«Omdat jij mijn beste vriend bent» is a book of satirical columns by Youp van 't Hek, published by Thomas Rap in paperback (190 pages, in Dutch).
A collection of columns that appeared in the daily NRC Handelsblad. With satirical humour, it reviews current affairs of 2008 and 2009: the financial crisis, the election of Obama or the Queen's Day attack, and settles scores with the vanity of celebrities. The author seeks to make his readers laugh at stupidity and bureaucratic absurdity.
Except for two, the columns appeared weekly on the back page of the Saturday edition of NRC Handelsblad. The book was published in July 2009.
Intended for a broad audience, especially for those who follow Dutch current affairs and enjoy social satire and corrosive humour.
Joseph Jacobus Maria "Youp" van 't Hek is a Dutch author, columnist, singer-songwriter, playwright, critic and former comedian.
