In the Catalonia of the 1950s, a great fire in a textile colony breaks the monotony. The warehouses burn and the smoke permeates everything. The struggle to save the factory is desperate, but was there really no one trapped in the fire? This novel evokes life in a textile colony, the poisoned social relations, and the combination of despotism and condescension that governs the lives of its inhabitants. A large factory that is also the school, the church, the shops and the houses.
