In 'O Último Cais', Helena Marques presents the story of Marcos and Raquel, a couple who, after sixteen years of marriage, still love each other with the same passion as at the beginning. Raquel, a beautiful and intelligent woman, patiently awaits Marcos' return from his missions as a Navy doctor. Meanwhile, she shares family stories with her daughter Benedita, remembering past tragedies and dreaming of traveling and seeing the places Marcos visits. The novel transports us to a 19th-century Funchal, where traditions and secrets intertwine in an era of change and progress.
