«O Passeio do Bêbado» is the popular science essay by Leonard Mlodinow, published by Bizâncio in paperback (284 pages, in Portuguese).
Mlodinow explains how randomness, chance and probability influence daily life more than is believed: school grades, political polls or the success of a film star are less reliable than they seem. What happens is as unpredictable as the steps of a man staggering out of a bar.
The full subtitle of «O Passeio do Bêbado» is «Como o Acaso Rege as Nossas Vidas»; the work, published in 2009, belongs to the science category.
It is aimed at readers who want to understand how chance conditions the outcomes of everyday life.
Leonard Mlodinow is an American theoretical physicist and mathematician, screenwriter and author. In physics, he is known for his work on the large N expansion, a method of approximating the spectrum of atoms based on the consideration of an infinite-dimensional version of the problem, and for his work on the quantum theory of light inside dielectrics.
