In 1935, Edmond Charlot, a young man of twenty, returns to Algiers from Paris with the idea of founding a bookstore and a publishing house, which he calls Las Verdaderas Riquezas. This place becomes a meeting point for writers such as Antoine de Saint-Exupéry and André Gide, and the first text by Albert Camus is published there. In 2017, Ryad, an engineering student in Paris, is commissioned to empty and repaint an Algerian bookstore that will be converted into a fritter shop. Kaouther Adimi mixes past and present to narrate the history of Algeria and the love of books.

Kaouther Adimi is a writer, graduate in modern literature and human resources management. She works today in Paris, where she has lived since 2009.
