«Memorias de una geisha» is the historical novel by Arthur Golden, published by Alfaguara in hardback (552 pages, in Spanish).
The novel follows Sayuri from a childhood of poverty to becoming a celebrated geisha in interwar Kyoto, where Japanese traditions coexist with Western influence. Through her eyes, the harsh training of young aspirants in the art of seduction is portrayed, along with a world of appearances, passions, and submission in which love appears as a mirage.
It is the Spanish translation of 'Memoirs of a Geisha', originally published in 1997; this edition came out in April 1999.
A work suitable for reading clubs and for those seeking historical fiction set in interwar Japan.
