«Memorias de un cortesano de 1815» is the historical novel by Benito Pérez Galdós, published by Círculo de Lectores in hardback (235 pages, in Spanish).
Set in Madrid in 1815, it follows the rise of Juan de Pipaón, an upstart who manages to insinuate himself into Ferdinand VII's inner circle to curry favour near the throne. With a satirical and grotesque tone, Galdós turns the supposed memoirs of this courtier into a portrait of the palace intrigues of Ferdinand's absolutism.
It belongs to the second series of the Episodios Nacionales, of which it is the second instalment. The novel originally appeared in 1875; this edition is from 1996.
For readers of historical fiction and nineteenth-century Spanish narrative, especially those who follow Galdós's Episodios Nacionales.

Benito María de los Dolores Pérez Galdós was a Spanish realist novelist and politician. He was a leading literary figure in 19th-century Spain, and some scholars consider him second only to Miguel de Cervantes in stature as a Spanish novelist.
