«Memoria de unos ojos pintados» is the historical novel by Lluís Llach, published by Seix Barral in paperback (400 pages, in Spanish).
Four friends, two boys and two girls, born in 1920, grow up in the working-class neighbourhood of Barceloneta. The Republic opens a horizon of hope for them, but the Civil War and Francoist repression destroy it. Now elderly, Germinal recalls before a young film director the story of love and friendship that bound him to David.
It belongs to the Biblioteca Breve collection, was translated from Catalan by Rosa María Prats and won the Premi de Narrativa Maria Àngels Anglada in 2013.
For readers of historical fiction interested in the Civil War, Republican memory and love stories in times of conflict.
