«Mémoires d'un âne» is the children's novel by the Countess of Ségur, published by Casterman in hardback (190 pages, in French).
The donkey Cadichon writes his memoirs to prove that donkeys are not as clumsy as people think. Mistreated by a farm woman, he flees to the woods and passes through several masters; to those who treat him well he responds with loyalty, and to those who mistreat him, with defiance. His adventures, among children and castles, teach that wit must be accompanied by heart.
Work originally published in 1860; this French edition is from 1993. It belongs to children's and young adult literature.
Aimed at young readers and those who enjoy nineteenth-century children's classics with a moral.
