«Mala de Senhora e Outras Histórias» is a collection of short stories by Clara Ferreira Alves, published by Publicações Dom Quixote in paperback (183 pages, in Portuguese).
The work brings together twelve short stories that, according to Clara Ferreira Alves, pay homage to the short story and to the meticulous technique of her masters. In the introductory text, Clara Ferreira Alves defends the genre against those who consider it minor and cites Chekhov, Joyce and Salinger as references.
Clara Ferreira Alves, born in 1956, directed the Casa Fernando Pessoa and the literary magazine Tabacaria between 2004 and 2006; she has worked as a journalist, war reporter and literary critic.
Recommended for readers interested in the literary short story and contemporary Portuguese narrative, as well as in the technique of great masters of the short story.
