«Madame Bovary» is the classic novel by Gustave Flaubert, published by Plutón Ediciones in paperback (352 pages, in Spanish).
Emma Bovary, married to a rural doctor, cannot bear the monotony of provincial life and seeks escape, first in romantic novels and then in love affairs. In nineteenth-century France, this behaviour brings her social contempt. Flaubert tells her story with sober prose and a critical view of romance and self-deception.
This edition belongs to the Eterna Collection by Plutón Ediciones and includes the translation by Marie Mersoye; the work was originally published in 1856.
For readers of French literary classics and nineteenth-century realist fiction.
Gustave Flaubert was a French novelist. He has been considered the leading exponent of literary realism in his country and abroad. He is known especially for his debut novel Madame Bovary (1857), his Correspondence, and his scrupulous devotion to his style and aesthetics. The celebrated writer Guy de Maupassant was a protégé of Flaubert.
