«Má Mãe» is Ayelet Waldman's essay on motherhood, published in 2010 by Sinais de Fogo Publicações in paperback (270 pages, in Portuguese).
Drawing on her own life, Ayelet Waldman speaks with irony about what it means to be a mother today: the demand to be perfect, the fear of making mistakes, the criticism from other mothers, and feelings of guilt. Between family anecdotes and reflections, she asserts the right to be an imperfect mother, to rest, and not to give up oneself. The subtitle sums up those small everyday catastrophes that the author turns into chronicle.
Original English: Bad Mother (2009). Portuguese edition of 2010. Subtitle: Uma Crónica de Crimes Maternos, Calamidades Menores e Ocasionais Momentos de Felicidade.
Aimed at mothers and fathers seeking a sympathetic look at real parenting, as well as readers of essays and memoirs.

Ayelet Waldman is an Israeli-American novelist and essayist. She has written seven mystery novels in the series The Mommy-Track Mysteries and four other novels.
