«L'ultima notte di Aurora» is the mystery and suspense novel by Barbara Baraldi, published by Giunti Editore in paperback (528 pages, in Italian).
The protagonist, Aurora Scalviati, is a profiler at a police station in the Emilian province who investigates the suicide of a young woman and the discovery of a disfigured corpse by the River Po. The only clue is a photograph of a girl kept as a sinister trophy. The investigation leads her to pursue a serial killer inspired by the folk legend of the Grigione, who tears the faces off his victims. To stop him, Aurora must reunite her old unit, the Reietti, and make a deal with an enigmatic inmate.
It is the third instalment in the series featuring Aurora Scalviati, also known as Aurora Scalviati, profiler del buio. The novel was originally published in 2019 and was reissued in the Le chiocciole collection in 2021.
Recommended for readers of psychological thrillers and mystery novels looking for a profiler protagonist and a dark plot with folk legends.
