In 'Los lazos', Anna discovers a long letter written by her mother, Marie, a successful writer, after her death. The letter is addressed to H., Marie's first great love, who was her literature teacher when she was seventeen years old. H. was a married man with two children, seemingly with nothing in common with Marie. As Anna reads the letter, she feels compelled to investigate H. further, asking family and friends of her mother to better understand this relationship. Through this search, Anna tries to get to know her mother better, who died in a traffic accident when Anna was fourteen years old, and at the same time, discovers herself. The novel explores the strength of attraction, passions, and the pain of absence, raising the question of what happens when we establish bonds with someone we should never have approached.
