«Los hechos casuales» is the novel by Juan Carlos Botero, published by Alfaguara in paperback (560 pages, in Spanish).
Sebastián Sarmiento is a businessman marked by guilt after the death of his loved ones. Chance —a branch on the road, a call at the right moment, the reunion with a childhood friend— changes the course of his life. The novel places that chain of coincidences in the Colombian violence from the 1980s to the 2000s.
It belongs to the Hispánica collection. The author, born in Bogotá in 1960, won the Juan Rulfo Short Story Prize in 1986 and published this novel in 2023.
For readers of contemporary Colombian fiction interested in stories of grief, friendship and chance.
