«L'invitation» is the novel by Miquel Pairolí, published by Editions Autrement in hardback (166 pages, in French).
In 1939, to prevent their son from being executed by the Francoists, Mr and Mrs Forest accept the unsettling dinner invitation from Commissioner Carpentier. The evening features an opera recital, expressionless servants and disconcerting dialogue, alongside a succession of increasingly spiced dishes.
With a translation by Anne Charlon, this French edition was published in 2011 in the Littératures collection by Editions Autrement.
For readers of literary fiction interested in the Spanish Civil War and atmospheres of domestic tension.
