«Les saints innocents» is the novel by the Spanish writer Miguel Delibes, published by Verdier in paperback (117 pages, in French).
Set in rural Spain, it recounts the lives of peasant families subject to the masters of an estate. Azarías, a humble man who talks to birds, embodies an innocence that contrasts with misery and inequality; among the small everyday dramas, one eventually shatters the stillness of that world.
French translation by Rudy Chaulet of the Spanish original «Los santos inocentes». 1992 edition published in Paris; it belongs to the Otra memoria collection.
For French readers interested in Spanish rural narrative and in the work of Miguel Delibes.
