«Les oliviers du Négus» is a collection of short stories by French writer Laurent Gaudé, published by Actes Sud in paperback (176 pages, in French).
Four stories in which war or death stalk their protagonists: an old man who believes he hears Frederick II in hell, a centurion marching towards a declining Rome, a soldier fleeing a golem, and an anti-mafia judge awaiting his execution. Defeated but not vanquished, they utter their last words to bear witness and pass on.
Work framed in the Babel collection of Actes Sud, number 1154, and subtitled 'récits' on the cover.
For readers of contemporary French fiction and of stories with historical and existential undertones.
