In 1805, Eliza Raine, daughter of an Indian mother and a British father, boards at the Manor School for Young Ladies in York, where she lives apart from the rest. The arrival of Anne Lister, a new, charismatic and rebellious student, completely changes Eliza's life: an intense relationship develops between them that will mark their lives forever.
The novel is inspired by Anne Lister, a real figure who served as the basis for the series Gentleman Jack, and was a finalist for the Atwood Gibson Writers' Trust Fiction Prize.
