«Le ventre d'Achille» is an illustrated children's book by Brigitte Smadja, published by L'école des loisirs in paperback (56 pages, in French).
Achille is named after a great hero, but in everyday life it's not easy for him to be heroic: his trousers won't fasten and his belly makes him self-conscious. To impress Alma, he tries to find a way to make her need only him, and thinks that maybe love could change everything.
Illustrated by Alan Mets, it is part of the Mouche collection from L'école des loisirs. Published in 2003.
For early readers just starting to read alone, a relatable story about insecurities and the desire to be liked by someone.
